Planned Parenthood: Kindergarten Not Too Early To Start Sex Education; Nueces County Leaders Lay Down for PP

September 30, 2009
You read last week how the Nueces County Hospital District (NCHD) voted to give Planned Parenthood $70,000 of government funding for sex education in the Corpus Christi area (we testified against this action at the meeting).   http://texaslegislativeupdate.wordpress.com/2009/09/23/planned-parenthood-gets-70000-of-govt-funding-for-now/

We have also heard all the negative talk about the perceived state of affairs in Texas and in Corpus Christi as it relates to teen births and pregnancy because of the false claims and distortion and misstatements being made about abstinence education in Texas.

Quick Facts:  Teenage Birthrate in 1991 = 78

                          Teenage Birthrate in 2006 = 63

(Texas: per 1,ooo females aged 15-19)(Source: ChildTrends, Sept. 2009)

In case you are a member of the media or you are just confused by the Austin liberals, that’s a dramatic decrease. (more on the reporting of distorted statistics in a later entry).

But, we have now learned that at least in Nueces County (and likely other parts of Texas) Planned Parenthood itself has been involved in sex education since 2001.

I bet everytime PP cashes that $70,000 check, they laugh hysterically behind the backs of the NCHD board, who have a rubber stamp policy for Planned Parenthood.  How shameful that they sat there in that county room and acted like they were powerless.

So the conclusion is that PP’s method of sex education isn’t working right so they should be denied the government bailout correct?

Wrong, the NCHD heard all this testimony and evidence gave them the money government money anyway.

Headline: KINDERGARTEN IS NOT TOO EARLY TO START SEX EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN-that’s what Nancy Rutherford, the chairman of Planned Parenthood of Southeast Texas said at last week’s meeting before the NCHD meeting, when she testified before them. PP even said that they work with the HeadStart program on sex education.

You read that correctly, HeadStart, the program that focuses on preschool children. So, if you believe, as the media is trying to convince you, that teen pregnancy and teen birth numbers are bad and continue to get worse, isn’t it the fault of PP’s comprehensive sex education approach, since they have been conducting sex education in Nueces County since 2001?

Why would you continue giving them money for something that doesn’t work?  This approach makes no sense.  Shame on the NCHD members for continuing to waste the people’s money on PP’s failed sex education programs.  What do they care though, it’s not their money, right? (More later this week on the issue of how disrespectful and unprofessional the NCHD’s chair was toward the public).

The NCHD board was also made aware of the Teen  Talk program that is a part of Planned Parenthood’s sex education effort.  I must warn you, if you are interested in what “Teen Talk” is, you can access Planned Parenthood’s website about this but their content is very sexually explicit and information, pictures, and video on the website are inappropriate for viewing by children and even adults may be uncomfortable viewing such information, so we have not included a direct link at this point.

This information and the distrubing pictures from the “It’s Perfectly Normal” book recommended for use by Planned Parenthood were also presented to the NCHD, to no avail.

Additionally, the NCHD was made aware that PP is involved in sex education in numerous public schools, including many elementary schools.  Here is the full list of schools where PP claims they conduct sex education. Schools include:

Baker Middle School, Banquete High School, Calallen High School, Carroll High School,Collegiate High School, Driscoll Middle School, Evans Elementary, Gibson Elementary, Grant Middle School, Hamlin Middle School, King High School, Lamar Elementary, Lotspeich Elementary – Robstown, Martin Middle School, Miller High School, Moody High School, Ortiz Intermediate School – Robstown, Ray High School, Port Aransas Elementary, Middle and High School, Robstown High School, San Pedro Elementary, Seals Jr. High, South Park Middle School, Tom Browne Middle School, Tuloso Midway High School, West Oso High School, Zavala Elementary.

Over 4,700 members of the Nueces County have signed a petition to oppose government funding of Planned Parenthood.  The NCHD has and continues to ignore this significant number of community members.  However, this is only the beginning of the controversy on this issue.  Since we have now uncovered important documents about PP, you’re going to hear more about this issue and the Nueces County public is going to be more informed about who and what they are getting for their money.

And it’s our belief, they’ll soon be asking for a refund.  Check back later this week for more information on this issue.

Action Item: Contact the Texas State Board Of Education To Preserve Accurate Social Studies

September 29, 2009

Over the past couple of weeks, we have informed you about the battle over social studies (also includes U.S. Government & History and World History) at the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE), and how there was a proposal brought to the SBOE to remove Christmas and Rosh Hashanah from the current social studies standards.  Click here for Update summary on this issue. http://texaslegislativeupdate.wordpress.com/2009/09/18/update-education-board-vows-to-keep-christmas/

There are also many other issues that pertain to the Founding Fathers of our country, the religious heritage and the influence of religion on our culture and form of government, and many notable figures in Texas and American History.

Click this article to see how this issue is already being distorted by the media and Austin liberals.  http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/education/61999842.html

Did you know that David Barton, the appointed social studies expert that the liberals love to attack, is actually certified as an expert historian in state and federal courts?  Haven’t seen the media report this, to no surprise.

Now that the first round of meetings at the SBOE has taken place to review proposed changes to the social studies, the SBOE members need to hear from you before they make up their minds on these issues.  They need to know that you care about this issue now.

Action: Call the SBOE members and tell them to: (Click here for contact information) http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index4.aspx?id=3803

1.  Please present factual and accurate information in our social studies curriculum, do not revise history.

2.  Please present factual and accurate information about our Founding Fathers.

3.  Please present factual and accurate information about the religious heritage of our country and the influence and impact of religion on our form of government and our laws.

4. Please keep notable poeple in our curriculum, such as Christopher Columbus (should be mentioned more than once), Neil Armstrong (first man on the moon),  Albert Einstein and many more.

5. Please keep Christmas and Rosh Hashanah in the curriculum, as it has been for the past ten years.

Planned Parenthood Gets $70,000 of Gov’t Funding, for Now

September 23, 2009

Yesterday the Nueces County Hospital District approved $70,000 for Planned Parenthood to conduct sex education funding.  We presented testimony against this outrageous idea.  Click here for our talking points. We Oppose Government Funding for Planned Parenthood.  Click video link below for summary.

http://www.kristv.com/global/video/flash/popupplayer.asp?ClipID1=4151939&h1=Planned%20Parenthood%27s%20Funding%20Approved&vt1=v&at1=VideoPlayer&d1=128833&LaunchPageAdTag=News&activePane=info&rnd=20455775

Get this, PP in Nueces County claims they conduct  “abstinence-only” sex education.    And I am sure they execute it with seriousness and accuracy.

Why the skepticism?  Here’s what the national Planned Parenthood leader, Cecile Richards had to say about “abstinence only” just last week here in Texas (taken from online article):

(She also praised the Obama administration’s fiscal year 2010 budget proposal, which would cut funding for abstinence-only sex education. She said abstinence-only sex education is a “political program, and we’re only now beginning to see what it has brought us.” http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/164228.php

More shocking details from this meeting will be revealed next week.  Trust me, you won’t to miss it.

Action Item! Planned Parenthood Funding Final Vote Today! Make Your Calls Now!

September 22, 2009

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Today, the Nueces County Hospital District will vote on whether or not to give Planned Parenthood (PP) $70,000 in government funding for teen pregnancy prevention, including sex education by PP in Nueces County public elementary schools.

Click here for meeting details and contact information for elected officials in Nueces County who will vote on this issue. http://texaslegislativeupdate.wordpress.com/2009/09/16/nueces-county-elementary-schools-have-planned-parenthood-sex-education-county-to-decide-on-planned-parenthood-funding-your-action-needed/

Free Market Foundation and numerous concerned citizens will testify at this hearing about how it is irresponsible to give government funding to PP. Please come to this meeting if you are in the Corpus Christi area.  This is the final hearing on this issue.

“Too many questions still remain about Planned Parenthood’s use of government funding,” said Jonathan Saenz, legislative director at Free Market Foundation, who will testify in the public hearing.  “It is outrageous that Planned Parenthood claims that they provide abstinence-only sex education when they are the leading organization that seeks to undermine this 100% effective method.”

Tomorrow’s meeting of the Nueces County Hospital District is a public hearing on authorization funding for teen pregnancy reduction.  The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Nueces County Hospital District’s Board Room, located at 555 N. Carancahua St., Ste. 950-A, Corpus Christi.  The result of this meeting will determine the amount of money distributed to Planned Parenthood, which has already requested funding, for sex education.

“As government entities at all levels are looking to make responsible decisions, government resources should not be spent on organizations that stand to profit from failed sex education policies in our public schools,” said Saenz.  “We should not ‘bail out’ Planned Parenthood with public funds.”

In Texas, teen pregnancies, births, and abortions have continued to decrease since 1991.  In 1995, Texas began requiring that abstinence is taught as the preferred method of pregnancy and STD prevention, an approach that Planned Parenthood opposes.  PP claims to give “abstinence-only” sex education as well as “comprehensive” sex education in schools.

PP has been under investigation by state authorities at the state level due to unlicensed facilities performing abortion.  In early 2009, FMF helped to defeat Planned Parenthood’s effort in the Texas Legislature to drastically undermine abstinence-based sex education.

Update: Preliminary Victory! Education Board Vows to Keep Christmas

Great op-ed http://www.elpasotimes.com/opinion/ci_13335802

After almost a week of outcry on this, Christmas (and Rosh Hashanah) appear to be staying in social studies.  SBOE chairman, Gail Lowe, indicated that no one on the SBOE had no intention to go along with the proposal to remove Christmas from the current social studies curriculum for all 6th grade students.  The review committee that removed Christmas also acknowledge their mistake and their representative even admitted that her own mother had called her after hearing about our report of the Christmas removal and wanted to know why this was happening.

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/education/Board_signals_intent_to_keep_Christmas_in_school_textbooks.html

We’ll continue monitoring this situation, though, to make sure the official document submitted in October does show that Christmas and Rosh Hashanah have been restored.

Christmas Editorial; Christmas Discussion, SBOE Meeting Today-Live Blogging!

September 17, 2009

The State Board of Education meeting has begun.

Great Op-ed today in El Paso Times. (Don’t delete [Christmas] from classrooms. http://texaslegislativeupdate.wordpress.com/2009/09/16/texas-newspaper-dont-delete-christmas-from-classrooms/

David Barton, expert review member, of Wallbuilders, has on display here, an incredible collection of historical documents that are a part of his personal collection.  This is getting a lot of attention from the people at the meeting.

sboebibleThe first Bible in English in America is one of his impressive items on display, published in 1782.

SBOE Chairman Gail Lowe: She is discussing the proposal that Christmas and Rosh Hashanah be removed.  Her comments- ”Very doubtful, that this proposal will stand.  I would be surprised if that (proposed change remains).”

5:45 p.m. SBOE Member Leo suggests Bible and writings of Williams Blackstone being listed as reference documents for basis of found of U.S. Government.

5:35 p.m. SBOE Chairman Lowe: Why is there only a specific reference to the Democratic Party and not other parties?  Appears theres a “catch-all” section for all other political parties.  Where has the outrage been on this?   If it were the other way around, the liberals would be  having a fit.  Oh, wait a minute, they already did when examples of conservatives and conservative organizations were mentioned.

5:15 p.m. SBOE Member McLeroy: Why was this langauge initially taken out? (“describe how religion contributed to the growth of representative government”).  McElroy discusses how the SBOE reined the review committee in, back in April on this when they were going to take this language out.  Why?

Review member:  We made a mistake, and after further review we decided we needed to put it back in.

Nice job, Don McLeroy

4:45 p.m.  6th Grade Review committee, talking about the removal of Christmas and Rosh Hashanah.  Review committee member says even her mother called her and wanted to know why Christmas has been removed.  I think they got the message.  Review committee member states that important religious holidays for the major religion will put back in.  I assume that means that Christmas and Rosh Hoshanah will be put back in the Social Studies curriculum.  We’ll see when there updated version comes out in October.  We’ll wait until then to declare preliminary victory, as no vote has been taken by the SBOE members.

4:05 p.m.  SBOE member Craig: Why is Neil Armstrong out?  (yes, thank you-why in the world would you take out the first man on the moon?)  Review member:  We’ll look at that at consider putting him back in.

12:30 p.m. David Barton’s presentation has begun. Does any historian really know more about American history and society than David Barton? Have you heard of Elizabeth Lewis?  Haym Salomon? Wentworth Cheswill?  John Roth? Barbary Power War?(longest lasting war in American history). Do a search,  you’ll be amazed of how significant these persons are, and they are not mentioned at all in Social Studies.

SBOE Member Berlanga: I read in the newspaper that you want to take Cesar Chavez out of the social studies?”

Barton:  “That’s not true.” “I wanted more minorities in not less.”

Berlanga: Henry Cisneros?   Barton: He is noteworthy recognition for current/contemporary leaders not as a historical figure.

SBOE Member Knight:  Do you take your presentation “on the road.”  Barton:  Yes-miitary groups, churches, NAACP, etc.  Wow, NAACP has had David Barton make a presentations for them?  That’s going to really confuse and irritate the Austin Liberals.

11:17 a.m. Expert reviewers are testifying:  De la Teja testified.  I stepped out to do a TV interview with FOX 7, so missed most of his testimony.

sboe2 001

Peter Marshall testifying, focuses on the phrase “all men are created equal” , its importance to slavery issue, womens’ movement, civil rights movement and the pro-life issue (equality for unborn children).

Cesar Chavez and Thurgood Marshall and are still in the Social Studies curriculum nor were they ever removed.  “I am not aware that any SBOE member is in disagreement with this.”

Rep. Eddie Rodriguez is making a presentation speaking in support of keeping Cesar C havez and Thurgood Marshall in the social studies standards.

Testifying-Jewish organization representative recommending Jonas Salk (polio vaccine inventor) and Albert Einstein being kept in the standards, recommend use of word “Judeo-Christian” instead of Hebrew.  Salk and Einstein have been reomved in the proposed changes.  Great points! You’ll remember we brought the Albert Einstein issue to your attention.

SBOE Member Bob Craig;  You would want Rosh Hashanah back in?  (testifier) Yes, of course.

Kathy Miller of theextreme liberal Texas Freedom Network (the front group for Planned Parenthood-this group (TFN) was originally started by Cecil Richards-current head of Planned Parenthood and former Chief of Staff for Nancy Peolis) testifying,:

Observing process- she’s very concerned, “looks like were putting politics ahead of education. ”  I guess she’s talking about herself? Maybe she’s talking about Democratic State Representative Eddie Rodriguez who was the only elcted official to testify before the SBOE, a move which is extremely rare.

This is her chance to bash David Barton and others.

Texas Freedom Network supports taking Christmas out of the current social studies curriculum.

There she goes again, trying to desperately rename the 6th grade Social Studies course.  Why? Because she and her group are losing badly on the “Christmas” and “Rosh Hoshanah” issue.

Steve Schafersman is now testifying: He’s a political advocate that is still mad because he lost badly on the Science & Censorship issue, and now he is taking this chance to bash the SBOE members.

Texas Newspaper: Don’t delete (Christmas) from classrooms”

September 16, 2009

The El Paso Times gets it right.  Click here for this excellent op-ed on this issue.

http://www.elpasotimes.com/opinion/ci_13335802

“Christmas is a religious holiday, but it’s also more than that. It’s arguably the biggest and most popular holiday of the year in the United States, throughout Europe and in other countries on other continents. It’s religion. It’s culture.

It’s free market. Striking Christmas would be striking the biggest overall day that citizens, themselves, have stamped as No. 1.  We agree with Jonathan Saenz of the Free Market Foundation: “It’s outrageous that the war on Christmas continues in our state and our nation.’”

Nueces County Elementary Schools Have Planned Parenthood Sex Education; County to Decide on Planned Parenthood Funding: Your Action Needed!

September 16, 2009

Next week, the Nueces County Health District (NCHD) will meet to make a final decision on government funding for Planned Parenthood’s (PP) sex education courses, including their work in public schools.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:00 p.m. at 555 N. Carancahua St., Suite 950-A (NCHD Board Room), in Corpus Christi, the NCHD will have a public hearing on PP’s request for $70,000 of government funding for 2009-10.

We recently obtained a grant proposal from PP, where they list schools participating in sex education. Schools where PP claims to be performing sex education include numerous elementary schools.  Schools include:

Baker Middle School, Banquete High School, Calallen High School, Carroll High School,Collegiate High School, Driscoll Middle School, Evans Elementary, Gibson Elementary, Grant Middle School, Hamlin Middle School, King High School, Lamar Elementary, Lotspeich Elementary – Robstown, Martin Middle School, Miller High School, Moody High School, Ortiz Intermediate School – Robstown, Ray High School, Port Aransas Elementary, Middle and High School, Robstown High School, San Pedro Elementary, Seals Jr. High, South Park Middle School, Tom Browne Middle School, Tuloso Midway High School, West Oso High School, Zavala Elementary.

PP actually claims that they perform “abstinence-only” sex education. PP has had virtually no impact on the incidence of teen pregnancy in its time in Corpus Christi. We will be presenting testimony to the NCHD. We encourage those near Corpus Christi to contact NCHD board members and attend this meeting to show your support and stand with us against government funding for Planned Parenthood!
